Vancouver Construction Company’s Work with the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
When it was announced in 2003 that Vancouver would host the Winter Olympics in 2010, there was quite a bit of excitement. There was also quite a bit of work to be done.
Established in 1994, North Construction was selected to spearhead seven event venue projects that would represent Canada on the world stage.
The company had previously been active in ski development, working on projects around the Lower Mainland, Whistler/Blackcomb, and. the Rockies
The Olympic bid was the company’s chance to represent North Vancouver and the province of British Columbia. It was a golden opportunity to make Canada proud.
2010 Was a Big Year for Vancouver Construction
North Construction’s contributions to the Vancouver Olympics would include the following:
- Ski moguls
- Ski cross
- Ski aerials
- Half-pipe
- Parallel giant slalom
- Snowboard cross
- Transportation Infrastructure.
Even back then, the company had a reputation for taking on unique challenges and delivering innovative solutions. They knew this was their moment to shine.
A project of this stature can either make or break a company; however, North Construction was up to the task.
Ready to Go for the Gold
Having worked on several of that location’s ski trails already, the North Vancouver team was an obvious choice for the undertaking.
Being able to change and adapt to the needs of the client and the job at hand has always been North Construction’s big differentiator.
The team handled much of the work on Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver, including the giant slalom course. If you recall watching any of the snowboarding, or you’ve been up to Cypress in the years since, you’ve likely appreciated the company’s efforts.
Lasting Results
When the company’s owner is an avid skier, you know great passion and care goes into those jobs.

When you’re building for Olympic athletes and the demands of the Olympic committee, you have to meet a very stringent set of criteria.
North Construction was able to accomplish each task successfully.
